This week’s Bug’s Eye View takes us into the East Sussex countryside, where the rhythm of rural life unfolds in miniature moments of magic.

The camera begins, as always, with our fleeting insect guide—a tiny fly who reminds us that nature’s smallest creatures are often the most overlooked. From there, we are welcomed into a lively scene of goats nibbling on lush grass and chickens scratching for food in the sunshine, a reminder of the interconnectedness of animals, humans, and the land.

Among the grass and hedgerows, the camera lingers on delicate details:

✨ A damsel fly resting in the warmth

🐸 A tiny froglet, newly grown and still discovering its world

🌱 A tangle of wild blackberries, growing in defiance of pollution and urban sprawl

The moment of quiet human interaction—grass offered to the goats—anchors the film in the simple joy of sharing with nature, a gesture of care that reminds us how dependent we are on each other.

As an artist, I know how rare these moments of rural abundance feel in cities, where pollution and overbuilding suppress natural growth. Blackberries that thrive here in the hedgerows struggle to survive amidst concrete. With this series, I hope to bring the wonder of ecosystems—unpolished, unscripted, alive—to those who might otherwise be cut off from them.

The film, like all in the series, is accompanied by my improvised piano, a gentle improvisation that reflects the mood of the landscape. Lasting under 60 seconds, Bug’s Eye View is intended as a moment of calm and discovery, a tiny window into the extraordinary everyday.
